Ford has supplied law enforcement with vehicles for over 70 years and more than 12,000 police departments in the U.S. use Ford Pro software. Now, Ford Pro is introducing what it calls the country’s first electric pickup built for police.

The EV, named the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle (SSV), has targeted performance and capabilities of 0 to 60 miles per hour acceleration in under four seconds, up to 580 horsepower, and 775 pound-feet of torque. Other targets include up to 10,000 pounds of towing capacity and zero emissions.

The F-150 Lightning Pro SSV features Pro Power Onboard that could help to illuminate evening accident scenes with optional red/blue, amber/white roof-mounted LED strobes that can be seen from all sides of the vehicle. The mobile power source could also reduce costs related to fuel and maintenance.

The interior holds a 12-inch cluster screen and a 12-inch touchscreen. The exterior boasts Mega Power Frunk, which grants police officers 14.1 cubic feet of lockable cargo space. The front truck space allows officers to quickly access a 220-amp DC-DC converter that can support electronics such as computers, lights, and police radios.

Ford did not release the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV’s range in miles for the standard-range or extended-range battery.

The F-150 Lightning Pro SSV joins Ford’s fleet of special service vehicles, which includes the 2021 F-150 SSV, the 2021 Expedition/MAX SSV, and the 2020 Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle.
