HP is presenting seven notebooks and convertibles from the premium Envy and Specter series within the 2022 generation. Most models now use fast processors from Intel’s Alder Lake family, with the Specter x360 13.5 being the most striking.

It uses a 13.5-inch touch display in the high 3:2 format, which uses OLED technology with 3000 × 2000 pixels and a peak brightness of 500 cd/m² in the top configurations. So far, HP is the only manufacturer to use such 3:2 OLED screens. However, the previous Specter x360 was still satisfied with the quad-core processor Core i7-1165G7.

In the 2022 model, on the other hand, there are the ten-core CPUs Core i7-1255U and Core i5-1235U, each with two performance and eight efficiency cores. The Core i7 has a maximum turbo of 4.7 instead of 4.4 GHz and a more powerful integrated graphics unit – the difference should hardly be noticeable in everyday use. The processor is joined by up to 32 GB of LPDDR4X-4266 RAM and a maximum of 2 TB of PCI Express 4.0 SSD.

On the connection side, Thunderbolt 4 runs via two USB Type-C ports, one Type-A port transmits 10 Gbit/s (USB 3.2 Gen 2). There is also a 3.5 mm jack for headsets and Wi-Fi 6E. Sales are slated to begin in May 2022 with starting prices starting at $1,250.

The big brother Specter x360 16 uses a slightly flatter touch display in 16:10 format, but with its 16 inches it is larger overall than the 13.5 version. HP only uses high-resolution screens with at least 3072 × 1920 pixels for the model. The top configurations also have an OLED display that displays 3840 × 2400 pixels with up to 500 cd/m².

HP grants the processor in the Specter x360 16 higher power limits: interested parties can choose between the 12-core Core i5-1260P with 28 watts of thermal design power (TDP) or the 14-core Core i7-12700H with 45 watts of TDP. The U models in the sister model are content with 15 watts. There is also an independent graphics chip inside in the form of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 or Intel’s new Arc A370M.

In addition to two Thunderbolt 4, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) Type A and a headset connection, the Specter x360 16 also has an HDMI 2.1 image output for connecting a monitor. Wi-Fi 6E is also included here. Pricing starts at $1650, with delivery expected to begin soon as well.

In the Envy series, the Envy x360 13.3 is similar to the Specter x360 13.5, although the former is more compact with a 13.3-inch 16:10 display. The OLED option has a resolution of 2880 × 1800 pixels. You can choose between the 9-watt processors Core i5-1230U and Core i7-1250U, each with ten CPU cores. The 16-inch Envy x360 16 combines Alder Lake H processors (Core i5-12500H to Core i9-12900H) with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or Intel Arc A370M. The OLED version has a particularly high resolution of 3840 × 2400 pixels.

The other Envy models use either older CPUs like AMD’s Ryzen 5000U series or a GeForce RTX 2050 with the old Turing graphics architecture.
