One Piece's final boss, the World Government, proves they are ridiculously incompetent at one crucial aspect of running of their empire.

Contains spoilers for One Piece chapter #1057

New and updated bounties at the end of every major arc are a staple of One Piece’s story progression at this point. The latest bounty updates may have revealed the largest power in the world has one gigantic flaw that may prove to be its undoing.

Given that bounty updates typically come after the major events of an arc, they’re considered a somewhat relaxed event. Due to this, there are often a plethora of gags to be found in One Piece's bounty updates. For example, Usopp has a long-running gag where his bounty is increased to the point where it makes him afraid that people will come after him. In the same vein, Chopper has a gag where the World Government thinks he’s the Straw Hat Pirates’ pet and gives him an extremely low bounty as a result. As if this wasn’t already an incredible display of incompetence, One Piece’s latest chapter proves that the World Government has a serious problem when it comes to information gathering.

One Piece chapter 1058, titled “New Emperor” reveals the Straw Hats’ new bounties, as well as a shocking display of the World Government’s ineptitude. Most of the bounty reveals are standard gags, with Usopp getting upset his bounty has risen so high again and Sanji fuming that his bounty is lower than Zoro’s. Among these more standard bounties are some truly ridiculous new posters. For one, Chopper is still labeled as nothing more than the Straw Hats’ pet even after announcing to practically everyone on Onigashima that he wasn’t just a pet reindeer as he assumed his Monster form. Even worse than that though, is the new poster image being used for Franky’s bounty. On his wanted poster, Franky’s picture is…the Thousand Sunny.

The World Government somehow believes that “Cyborg” Franky is now in fact the Straw Hats’ ship. This is truly incompetence taken to an entirely new level. Given that Franky was on the radar of plenty of high-ranking government officials already like Spandam, it seems ridiculous that he would ever be mistaken for being an actual pirate ship. During the Raid on Onigashima, Franky even single-handedly defeated Sasaki, one of Kaido's highest-ranking commanders. Somehow, despite all of that, the World Government has been led to believe that at some point in time, Franky modified himself into the Thousand Sunny. Also taking into account Chopper literally screaming out loud about how he isn't just a pet, the World Government seems to have some major issues when it comes to actually being able to assess their enemies.

The World Government has always represented this idea of absolute order and discrimination within the world of One Piece, and to achieve this effect, World Government officials have been responsible for most of the heartbreaking and disastrous events the denizens of the world must deal with. That being said, their incompetence at disseminating information on wanted posters has truly reached an all time high, and their inability to do so effectively may prove to be their downfall.
