Newport Harbor Post 291 of the American Legion will host a swift boat from the Vietnam War era at its dock from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10. The event is in recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
Also on display over the weekend will be a “Dustoff” Huey medical evacuation helicopter used during the Vietnam War.
Tours of the fully-restored U.S. Navy swift boat PCF816 brought up from the San Diego Maritime Museum will be offered. All guests visiting for swift boat tours are asked to enter through the parking lot gate.
On Saturday night, members of the Newport Harbor Post and their friends will gather for their annual Welcome Home Vietnam Party. Tickets for that event are $35. For party reservations, call (949) 673-5070 Ext. 1100.

The Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center, 235 Forest Ave., will be presenting a film series throughout the month of April with a focus on understanding climate change.
There will be five screenings — “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” (April 6), “The Age of Consequences” (April 13), “Before the Flood” (April 20), “This Changes Everything” (April 27), “I Am Greta” (April 29).
“We curated the ‘Make Earth Cool Again’ film festival to give filmmakers a local venue to tell important stories and inspire communities to take action,” Rick Conkey, director of Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center, said in a statement. “After each film, we’ll have dynamic discussions led by experts for guests to ask questions, learn more, and bounce around ideas.”
The free film screenings will begin at 7 p.m., with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Reservations can be made at lbculturalartscenter.org.
Edison High School is looking to hire a new boys’ and girls’ cross-country coach, the school has announced.
The Chargers competed Thursday in a track and field dual meet at Corona del Mar, where Brian Brierly, the head coach of both programs and the school’s distance running coach, said he had taken a coaching position at Canyon High School in Anaheim, where he has been a chemistry teacher since 2014.

Fountain Valley’s annual Easter egg hunt will take place at Fountain Valley Sports Park, 16400 Brookhurst St., from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.
Families can come out with the kids and partake in the fun, with egg hunts running one after the next.
Photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny will be available, and there will also be carnival games.
A breakfast event with Fountain Valley Mayor Patrick Harper will take place inside Suite 214 at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital Conference Center on Thursday, April 21 from 8 to 9 a.m.
Rep. Michelle Steel will be a guest speaker for the event, which will also feature a hospital update.
The breakfast is free, with organizers encouraging a donation of $2 per plate.
Speak Up Newport is hosting a candidates’ forum in the races for county supervisor and assembly in the 72nd District on April 13.
As of Friday, the candidates for the assembly race confirmed to be attending will be Diane Dixon, Judie Mancusco and Benjamin Yu. As for the race for county supervisor, candidates Pat Bates, Katrina Foley, Diane Harkey and Kevin Muldoon are expected.
The forum will be held in the community room at the Newport Beach Civic Center. A reception will be held at 5:15 p.m. with the main program set to begin at 6 p.m.
People will be able to attend both in person or online through Zoom. Those who wish to watch the forum online will need to register at speakupnewport.com/meet-the-candidates-2022.

The Laguna Beach Democratic Club announced this week its featured speaker on Wednesday, April 13, will be Judie Mancuso, candidate for State Assembly, District 72. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Susi Q. center. Registration for the hybrid event is free at the lbdems.com.
A resident of Laguna Beach since 1995, Mancuso is vice chair of the city’s Environmental Sustainability Committee. She is the founder and chief executive of Social Compassion in Legislation, an animal welfare not-for-profit.
The Pacific Life Foundation recently gave a $12,500 grant to Project Access, an Orange nonprofit that operates family and senior resource centers in low-income and workforce housing communities across the country.
Officials at the nonprofit said that this is the first of a three-year, $42,500 grant commitment from the Pacific Life Foundation dedicated to its after-school tutoring and enrichment programs.
“At Project Access we believe access to vital on-site health, education, employment services, and economic services for families, children, and seniors is vitally important and supports positive outcomes on a myriad of levels,” said Kristin Byrnes, chief executive officer and president of Project Access in a statement announcing the grant. “This generous commitment from the Pacific Life Foundation will go a long way in helping us to fulfill our education mission.”
