A stunning new animated billboard advertising Pokémon GO has appeared in Tokyo, wowing fans with a variety of Pokémon including all three forms of Meowth. Also known as the Scratch Cat Pokémon, Meowth is recognized by the coin it wears on its head. This recognizable trait might owe its roots to traditional Japanese legends.

Meowth is in many ways the mascot of the Pokémon anime's Team Rocket, just like Pikachu is the mascot for Pokémon as a whole. Talking with a Brooklyn accent, the villainous feline works with Jessie and James in their many schemes to steal Pokémon. The Team Rocket Trio have become famous characters in their own right, and this has led to them making appearances in several games over the years. They first appeared in Pokémon Yellow, a game notably designed to be more in line with the plot of the anime. More recently, the hapless trio have flown their iconic Meowth Balloon into Pokémon GO to attack players.

A new billboard advertisement on the streets of Tokyo, Japan is now amazing Pokémon GO fans on Twitter as well with some impressive 3D graphics. The ad shows a variety of feline Pokémon, notably including all three regional forms of Meowth, interacting with both each other and the surrounding environment. While these three don't seem to be a part of Team Rocket themselves, the Alolan Meowth does knock its regular counterpart away in an attempt to get at a pile of berries. Meanwhile, Pikachu can be seen at the beginning and end of the ad, standing in a room with the game's logo. With Pokémon GO recently debuting Hisuian Pokémon forms, this may provide some fans the last bit of interest needed to pick up the game and start playing.

As with any 3D show, by far the most striking parts of the advert are when things go flying. Some creative editing frames the woodland scene as standing atop Pikachu's little chamber, giving the impression of a stage. This allows, for example, the berries the Meowth variants fight over to tumble over the 'edges' of the advert a short way. The scene's depicted supportive struts blend in very well with the real world, which helps greatly to sell the illusion. Similarly, Galarian Meowth leaps out at the viewer partway through the ad, and later on, viewers can see an amazing display of fiery prowess coming from cute Alolan starter Pokémon Litten.

This billboard is a wonderful spectacle for any Pokémon GO fan. From the playfully fighting Meowth to the spectacle of pristine 3D animation, this billboard seems to have it all. The events of the animation itself are also very charming, serving to show off a wide variety of Pokémon in a dynamic environment. It's very fortunate that fans will not need to travel all the way to Tokyo in order to see this advert; it would be a shame for any Pokémon fan, whether they play Pokémon Go or not, to miss seeing it. The video presents the kind of creative use for Pokémon abilities many would use in real life, which is quite fitting for an AR game.
